The conversions worth memorizing
Whole hours need no conversion — 8 hours is 8.0 — so the only skill involved is the minutes part. The quarter hours are trivial: 15 minutes adds .25, 30 adds .50, 45 adds .75. Everything else follows the same divide-by-60 rule, and the converter carries it to four decimal places so rounding policy, not arithmetic, explains any difference on your paycheck.
Tenths are worth a look too, because many job-costing systems round to one decimal place: 0.1 hours is 6 minutes, 0.2 is 12, 0.3 is 18.
